Please know what a haiku is. It is a short poem consisting of 17 syllables, or less, in which concrete images (usually 2 or 3) are associated, compared or contrasted. The haiku can be written in three lines with 5 - 7 - 5 syllables, or in a short - long - short lines using less syllables or it can be written on one line. Haiku should have a pause after either the first phrase or the second one. This avoids making a run-on sentence. One tries not to use abstract images; write about what you can see, smell, taste, touch or hear.
If you feel confused, read some of the past winners to get ideas. Good luck to you! And take heart. Thirty year old veteran haiku writers are always being surprised by seeing a new writer's first haiku win the prize. Amazing!
If this fabulous form fails to function you can send your haiku as email with SEA SHELL ENTRY as subject line.
